For a villa exterior, hospitality space or larger commercial project, a useful microcement enquiry starts with the surface and the scope — not just a colour reference. This checklist helps SurfaceLab understand what you want to achieve and what needs to be reviewed before a proposal.

1. Identify the areas clearly

Separate floors, walls, steps, curved features and any other elements. Include approximate quantities for each area rather than a single total. Mark them on a drawing where possible, and say whether the project is new work or a refurbishment.

2. Show the existing surface

Send overall photographs and close-ups of the current finish, junctions, edges and any visible cracks or damage. State what is known about the substrate and previous work. Photographs support an initial discussion; they do not replace a site assessment.

3. Describe the outdoor setting

Explain whether the area is covered or exposed, how it is used and whether water, irrigation or vehicle traffic needs to be considered. Include available information on falls, drainage and existing waterproofing. Ask for the proposed system and its intended uses to be identified; do not assume an indoor specification can be carried outdoors unchanged.

4. Define the visual direction

Share two or three references and explain what you like: colour, movement, texture or the way the surface meets adjacent materials. Review samples in the intended setting. Agree how the sample or mock-up will be used as a reference, including any costs and revisions.

5. Set out access and timing

Tell us when the site will be ready, which other trades will be working nearby, and any access restrictions. Distinguish your preferred completion date from a fixed operational deadline. The project programme needs to be discussed against the selected system and actual site conditions.
